Celebrating Advent - Week 1

Advent-1

Our family has so many special traditions at this time of year. One of them is our observance of Advent. Today marks the first Sunday in Advent and so tonight we light the first candle in our wreath. This is the first purple candle and it represents "Hope".

Charles gets to light the first candle and say a special dinner prayer. That candle will then be lit each night this week during dinner. (Topher is too young to light a candle so he gets to blow them out). Each Sunday, we have a special dinner and I usually make sugar cookies shaped like stars and dusted with glistening sanding sugar. Tonight's dinner was a favorite of mine:

"Family Favorite" Brisket in the Crockpot
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Last year, Edmund learned a sweet little Advent Song in Church. I'd like to incorporate this song in to our our Advent celebrations at home.

ADVENT SONG

Verse 1:

Light the Advent Candle one
Now the waiting has begun
We have started on our way
Time to think of Christmas Day

Chorus:

Candle, candle, burning bright
Shining in the cold winter night
Candle, candle, burning bright
Fill our hearts with Christmas Light

Verse 2:

Light the Advent Candle two
Think of humble shepherds who
Filled with wonder at the sight
Of the child on Christmas night

Chorus

Verse 3:

Light the Advent Candle three
Think of heavenly harmony
Angels singing "Peace on Earth"
At the Blessed Saviour's birth

Chorus

Verse 4:

Light the Advent Candle four
Think of joy forever more
Christchild in a stable born
Gift of love that Chrismas morn

Chorus

Hello Emily
I searched for my sheet music for this song and couldn't find it. I really only needed it for the words and now I'm so happy that I have found them here. It's a lovely Advent song.
Thanks, from Nita in Australia.

Here I thought I was the only one who knew this song outside of those around my age and older in my parish. I was tempted to think the Priest and sisters wrote it themselves. Thank you!

I have seen this song in the "Journey Songs Book," a hymnal used by many Catholic parishes. Perhaps you coud contact the publishers of that hymnal for accompaniment or for permission to copy it from one of the accompaniment books at a local parish.

I've been looking for the lyrics, and when I found the lyrics I was over-joyed, just to learn that my music director needs the tune, which I can't find anywhere. If anyone has the tune please let me know, you can email me at gabalotkk2295@aim.com

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for posting the lyrics. This was the song I sang to my children as we lit the Advent Candles & I lost my copy of the words.
