Self Portrait Tuesday - Identity #3

reading
Mom, Mommy, Mother, Momma

I know that this is an identity that so many of us share. I need to document it as part of this series, though, because it really is a big part of who I am.

I've known many women who feel that they have lost their identity or perhaps it is on hold while they play the part of "Mom". And that is exactly how they look at it - playing a part. Being a mom is not really who they are but rather a role they must assume for a short time. They count the days, minutes, years, until they can go back to work- to who they "really" are.

Being a mom IS who I am. I dreamt of being a mom. I longed for it.

It is a difficult job and often a frustrating job. There are times that I just cringe at hearing "Moooommmmyyyyyy" for the 43rd time in an hour and I fantasize about changing my name. But really, I wouldn't trade this job for anything. When a little face looks up at me with those big round eyes and says "You are the most bestest mommy EVER", I know - I am a mom and I love it!
